Adults of this species do not have a distinct elite margin, and the pronotum is covered with orange spots. It is most abundant in lowland and coastal areas. Individuals appear in May, while individuals of the species L. italica appear in June. The species Luciola lusitanica is widespread in southern Europe, reaching the coasts of Russia and Ukraine.
