The colouration of the wings is somewhat lighter compared to related species from the genus Carcharodus. This is easily noticeable on the underside of the butterfly wing, which is almost white. In Serbia, this is rare and local butterfly, inhabiting calcareous rockland and pastures, but can be observed on other types of meadows and pastures. It is found sporadically along southern parts of Europe and in the neighbouring regions of Africa and Asia.
